Properly Pack Trash and Recycling Bins to Reduce Debris on Roadways

Republic Services has reported an uptick in trash debris falling from improperly packed trash and recycling bins. To help cut down on trash and recycling falling from bins while they're being collected, Republic has some reminders about packing your bins for trash collection.

Trash:

  • All trash items should be bagged and inside the cart.
  • Do not over pack your trash bin. The lid should be able to close fully.
  • Only normal household trash should be inside your container. Non-compactible items like bricks, concrete, and tiles require a special bulk and brush pick up. To learn more about bulk and brush pick up, visit www.flower-mound.com/593/Bulk-and-Brush-Pick-Up.

Recycling:

  • Never bag or bundle your recyclables. Items should be placed in your recycling bin loose.
  • Do not over pack your recycling bin. The lid should be able to close fully.

Both your trash and recycling bins should be placed within two feet of the edge of the street, and the handles should face your house with the lid opening to the street. Both carts should also be placed far enough away from any mailboxes to allow the mail carrier access to the mailbox without interference.

If your trash or recycling bin is damaged and you would like to request a new bin, visit www.flower-mound.com/replacementbins.
