Upper Trinity Regional Water District Urging Residents to Stop Watering

Generic Sprinkler (2)

We’ve got good news and bad news.

The bad news: despite all the recent rain, local lake levels are still very low. Additionally, forecasters are predicting warmer and drier conditions this winter, which isn’t good for lakes that provide water to North Texas. Because of this, the Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) is keeping current outdoor watering restrictions in place.

The good news: it’s time to turn off your sprinklers anyway! That’s because lawns and plants are nearing dormancy and need very little water to make it through the winter.

To help conserve water, UTRWD is asking all residents to turn off their sprinklers and other forms of irrigation until next spring. As a reminder, Flower Mound’s current restrictions limit outdoor watering to no more than two days a week. Since you no longer need to water your dormant landscape, these restrictions should not affect you. However, if you need a refresher, the following restrictions are still in place:

  • Watering lawns and gardens between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. is prohibited.
  • Outdoor watering with automatic systems or hose-end sprinklers is limited to no more than twice per week.
    • Residents and businesses with street addresses ending in an even number can water on Sundays and Thursdays.
    • Residents and businesses with street addresses ending in an odd number can water on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • Residents may refill swimming pools but only on their designated watering days.
  • Watering by means of a hand-held hose, bucket, or drip irrigation is permitted at any time.
  • Residents on well water are exempt from these restrictions.
