Town Reminds Residents to Properly Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste

Newsflash Battery fire

It is very important that Flower Mound residents properly dispose of hazardous and electronic waste. When improperly disposed, household hazardous waste can become a dangerous fire risk. Recently, batteries were tossed into a Flower Mound residential collection bin. When Republic Services workers added the contents of the bin to their truck, the batteries caught fire. Thankfully, the driver of the truck was able to extinguish the flames before anyone was hurt.

Other items that have been linked to trash truck fires include, but are not limited to, pool chemicals, gasoline, propane tanks, paint thinner and other solvents, and household cleaners. In an effort to stop these dangerous incidents, we’re reminding residents how to properly dispose of hazardous waste. Residents can have their household hazardous waste and e-waste collected from their front door.
