Certain properties within Denton County may qualify for a temporary exemption under the Texas Property Tax Code, due to Gov. Abbott’s disaster declaration in response to last week’s winter storm.

A primary requirement for a qualifying property is that at least 15 percent of the structure value was damaged by the disaster. The exemption applies to homes, as well as tangible business personal property used in the production of income.

To apply for a temporary exemption, please complete the application. Documents, inspections, photos, repair estimates, surveys, and any other additional information that may be helpful in assessing the property’s damage must be included with the application. All materials must be submitted to the Denton Central Appraisal District, 3911 Morse Street in Denton.

Applications must be received by Friday, May 28. Additional information can be found online
