Locating Your Home’s Water Shut-Off Valve

graphic that says "Locating Water Shut-Off Valve"

If you need to shut off water to your home, there’s a way to do it without accessing your water meter box. Flower Mound homes with a concrete slab foundation most likely have a water shut-off valve outside their home, often within a couple feet of the home. Please keep in mind, it may be covered by snow and landscaping material.

In many cases, it is within a few feet of your water faucet/hose connection on the front or side of your home. It is probably located inside a plastic box, with a black or green lid. Residents will only see the lid, which should be level to the ground.

Once you open the box, there may be dirt inside of it. Once you clear the dirt out of the box, you will see a lever handle or handle similar to the outside spigot that is able to be turned manually. Turn this clockwise to shut off the water supply to your home. You may need to use a pair of pliers, crescent wrench, or channel lock to do so.

If you need assistance shutting off the water to your home, please call Public Works at 972.874.6400.
