All participants in the Adopt-A-Spot Program must realize they are working in a potentially hazardous environment and must diligently follow all safety tips listed below. This list, recommended by Keep Flower Mound Beautiful and the Town's Environmental Services Department, is provided for the guidance of participants and is not all-inclusive. Each participant is responsible for his or her own safety.
DO:
- Make participants aware of the potential dangers
- Wear gloves or use trash pickers
- Wear safety vests and/or brightly colored clothing for cleanup
- Wear long pants, shirts, and closed-toed shoes
- Wear sunscreen and insect repellant
- Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards (passing cars, poisonous plants, fire ants, and snakes)
- Drink plenty of water
- Maintain a ratio of one adult per four underage participants
- Keep workgroups to a manageable size and use the "buddy system"
- Stay clear of construction areas
- Carpool
DON'T:
- Do not pick up hazardous materials found on-site
- Do not pick up litter during inclement weather, at night, or during hours of peak traffic
- Do not park vehicles in the medians, on the parkway, or in traffic lanes where parking is prohibited
- Do not allow participants to partake of, posses, or distribute alcoholic beverages while participating in cleanup or beautification events
- Do not touch or play with exposed wire or cables
- Do not do anything that may distract or cause injury of other participants or third parties
