Child Safety Seat Inspections

Overview

The Flower Mound Police Department offers child safety seat inspections to ensure your child is secured properly when riding your vehicle; safety seat inspection events are conducted throughout the year. The dates, times, and locations for these events will be posted on the Town of Flower Mound's social media accounts and our Community Services Unit Calendar. We understand the importance of safety when it comes to transporting such valuable cargo. For questions regarding this program, please email Community Services.

Assistance

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, “Over the years, local, state, and national surveys have been conducted on child safety seat use." They reveal alarming statistics about the safety of children traveling in motor vehicles. Nationally, misuse rates are estimated to be about 80 percent and can be found in all races, socioeconomic, and educational levels. This means that children traveling in every community across America are being placed at risk for serious injuries or death because they are improperly restrained or not restrained at all. It is understandable that most parents and caregivers need to seek assistance for:

  • Installing the seat correctly
  • Obtaining information and experience that will lead to self-sufficiency for future use
  • Placing the child in the seat correctly
  • Using the correct child safety seat for the age/size of the child

Child Safety Seat Inspections

The Flower Mound Police Department is committed to the goal of making the youth of our community as safe as possible while traveling our roads. Our agency has specially trained technicians that hold a national certification affiliated with Safe Kids. Our technicians participate in multiple community events throughout the year specifically related to the installation, inspection, and education regarding the proper installation of child restraint systems. Our technicians will take the time to observe the child in the seat as it is currently being used, inspect the safety seat, and go over proper installation techniques with the parent(s). The process takes about 45 minutes and is free of charge.
