A Little Bit About Us

In 1961, the Town of Flower Mound incorporated to avoid being annexed by the City of Irving. We're named after The Flower Mound – a native segment of the Great American Black Land Prairie that rises 50 feet above the surrounding countryside and is known for its abundance of wild flowers. The Flower Mound is located on Farm to Market road (FM) 3040 at the northeast corner of the FM 3040 and FM 2499 intersection.

With a low crime rate, great schools, beautiful open spaces, abundant recreation opportunities, first-class shopping and dining, and one of the lowest tax rates in North Texas, you couldn't ask for a better place to raise a family. In addition, Flower Mound is centrally located within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with quick access to the DFW International Airport. Flower Mound has nearly 1,000 acres of parkland, including more than 60 miles of hike, bike, and equestrian trails, numerous athletic fields, 57 parks, and 35 unique playgrounds. We're centrally located between Grapevine Lake and Lake Lewisville, providing access to miles of beautiful shoreline for outdoor activities.

Be sure to explore all the programs we offer through the Community Activity Center, the Senior Center, and the Flower Mound Public Library. Take your furry friends to the Hound Mound dog park, cool off at the Heritage Park splash pad, or enjoy a staycation at the newly-upgraded 243-acre Twin Coves Park on the north shore of Grapevine Lake. Community events are a tradition in Flower Mound, with a fun-filled calendar that includes our Independence Day celebration, summer concert series, art festival, Veterans Day Relay, Dorothy's Dash 5K race, Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony, and much more. It's this great sense of community that led Money to rate Flower Mound as the fourth "Best Place to Live" in the nation for 2021-2022. As you enjoy your time in Flower Mound, know that you are greeted as a neighbor, a friend, and a family member.
