Aerial Mosquito Control Spraying Delayed Due to High Winds for Portion of Town
Due to adverse wind conditions at the optimal flight altitude, Denton County Officials reported the aerial mosquito control spray planes were unable to cover portions of Flower Mound, specifically, south of FM 1171. Denton County Officials in partnership with Clarke Aviation, plan to cover the entire area tonight, September 1, and will conduct a second round of aerial mosquito control spraying over the missed portions Sunday, September 2. In order to accurately release the mosquito control spray, wind conditions must be below 10 miles per hour. Further updates will be posted on www.flower-mound.com.

Town-wide Aerial Mosquito Spraying has been rescheduled to Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1 between the hours of 9:00 p.m.and 2:00 a.m, weather permitting. As the coordinating agency, Denton County made the decision to reschedule aerial spraying based on the expected wind speed during the anticipated spraying times. For maxium effectiveness and accuracy, winds need to remain below 10mph and consistent.

When will spraying occur in Flower Mound?
County-wide spraying will occur between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1, weather permitting. Cities within Denton County participating in the aerial spraying program, inlcuding Flower Mound, will be sprayed twice.
What time will they be spraying Flower Mound?
An exact time cannot be determined for each city.
What about outdoor sporting events/football games?
County officials have indicated that spraying over stadiums and designated outdoor events will not occur until after the event is concluded and the stadiums are vacated.
How will spraying affect pets and livestock?
At the concentration levels delivered in the aerial application, precautions are not advised for livestock and other animals (pets, fish, etc.)
What pesticide is being utilized?
The pesticide, Duet, is being utilized at a concentration level of 0.8 oz per acre.
Are there any precautionary measures that residents should heed?
Residents who have concerns can take the following precautions:
- Avoid being outside during spraying; close windows and keep pets inside
- If skin or clothes are exposed, wash them with soap and water
- Rinse homegrown fruits and vegetables with water as a general precautionary measure
- Cover small ornamental fish ponds
- Because the chemical breaks down quickly in sunlight and water, no special precautions are suggested for outdoor swimming areas
Will I be able to smell the pesticide?
No, the product is odorless.
Why are the airplanes flying prior to the spray times?
The planes will be flying mapping reconnaissance flights 1-2 hours prior to each spraying event.
They will not be spraying during these flights.
Will spraying be rescheduled in case of inclement weather?
Yes, Denton County will reschedule the spraying events as soon as possible and the Town will be notified. Rescheduled spray dates will be communicated to the public.
